"Those triangle sequins"

Hi guys! I'm really sorry that I haven't posted in a long time, just crazy busy with exams! I'm afraid that I won't be posting as much as I hoped to due to the crazy amounts of revision and exams I have to do (Got my GCSE final exams coming up), but don't worry you can always read my previous posts, send me an email or comment and I'll try and get back to you as soon as possible. Once it's Summer I'll get back to posting reguarly.

 

Anyways, I hope you all had a lovely Christmas, and done lots of shopping in the Boxing Day sales! Of course I was there at 9am on Boxing Day LOL! But I found that the sales were a bit of a let down this year? It was all of the same stuff repeating in every shop, and most of the sales started before Christmas. One thing I did notice as I walked into shops were lots of studs. I overheard one lady say "What's the craze with those triangle sequins". I couldn't help but laugh - I'm guessing not everyone knows about them?  But she had a good point, what is the new craze with studs?

 

Nearly every shop I went to like Topshop, New Look, Republic, H&M or even Primark, there were studs. This trend came out about October time and I didn't really know what to make of it at first. I didn't really like it to be honest, I thought it was a bit too biker-ish, and they just looked like someone was wearing a weapon on their top LOL. But they've grown on me.  Many many leather jackets had studs on them.  I brought one to see what I could style it with and get opinions on it! This is what it looks like:

 

 

Due to the bad camera on my phone, it looks quite different in this picture, however you get the idea. It was £25 in Republic, which is quite a bargain for a jacket. I really liked it because it isn't a typical jacket. I didn't see another grey leather jacket that day whatsoever, and it can actually go with a lot. Due to the fact that it isn't black, I could accessorise it with black and not look boring.  When I was at the till two ladies asked me where I found the jacket, so I'm guessing that the stud trends are favourable.

 

As soon as I got home I tried on an outfit that I could wear with the jacket. This is what I came up with!

 

 













I got the shoes for £9 in the New Look sale on the same day! I decided to team it up with a plain black camisole, and skinny jeans to let the jacket make the statement. I wanted the studs to be the part of the outfit that everyone noticed, so I could think of no better way than to keep the rest of the outfit quite plain. 

 

Next on my shopping list, is a denim top with studs.  I'm not sure if I'd like it but I do want too see what I could try and wear that with. Denim tops are also a new must-have.  It does depend on the colour and style as to how the denim top would look. Winter Wonderland!

That time of year has come again where we get out our scarves and gloves, and get ready for the end of the year! Hasn’t 2012 gone so quickly? I love winter – SALES! I haven’t written an article in ages (sorry I’ve been really busy with exams), but I’m back!  I’m going to be your personal guide to purchasing winter clothes and how you’re going to get value for money. There are certain shops which have the best jumpers but there are some that just rip you off. 

Okay so for me the best part of winter is getting baggy jumpers! Winter jumpers are a new trend that have recently become popular and can look so pretty. I used to think of winter jumpers as those red and green jumpers with a reindeer or snowman on it but going down the high street, shops like New Look and Republic are doing beautiful ones!   The key to buying a good jumper is these few things: material, style and colour. The jumper has to be a nice material because you’ll find it so comfortable! If you find it comfortable, then you’re likely to wear it again and again; therefore you’re getting value for your money and then it won’t just sit at the bottom of your cupboard. The next thing is the style. You don’t want it to be like a cropped jumper because then half of your body will still be cold, but you don’t want it to be too long either that it’ll look stupid. It’s got to be a certain length (which varies according to personal taste). The last factor is the colour: you want it to be a colour that will go with skinny jeans and a pair of boots. I personally wouldn’t buy a bright red jumper because as I’m wearing it in winter, I think that red is too bright. I would personally go for neutral colours like blue, black, purple, grey. 

Winter shoes. Girls please don’t be wearing heels whilst you’re shopping in the winter – it’s silly and you’re feet just get cold. Now is the time when you can get out your UGGS and trainers, and you can chuck them on with a nice jumper and jeans.  In the summer I hardly wear my converses or vans, but in winter I practically live in them. If I was to go shopping I would just chuck on a baggy jumper, skinny jeans/leggings and vans. This is the best thing about winter because you can be warm without making so much of an effort which is why buying decent shoes and jumpers gives you such value for money. To be honest, its pointless buying t-shirts or chiffon blouses at this time of the year – it’ll look a bit odd and you’ll be cold. Fashion can be practical!

For example, below you’ll see a Ralph Lauren jumper that I have. I brought this at Ralph Lauren outlet stores for £40. I literally love this jumper because it’s so warm and so many things go with it! I can wear it to a restaurant, shopping or the cinema! This is an example of the perfect winter jumper, but I do understand that cable knit isn’t for everyone.

To Block or Not To Block?

Ever brought a garment that is beautiful but just doesn't go with anything? I know the feeling! You guys have seen my blue shoes (in the previous article, and below) ...  when I brought them, I had absolutely NO idea what to wear with them - I don't have any tops with that colour! However, that problem was solved when I came across colour blocking! Black, blue, pink, purple - random combination? Not when you're colour blocking! Some people think that colour blocking is too 1960's and that some colours just don't go no matter how much you try and enforce it! To an extent I agree which is why I'm going to tell you exactly how to colour block correctly ...

... I first saw the idea when I went shopping and a lady was wearing a pink jacket with bright blue shoes, black skinny jeans and a black top. Even though she looked a bit glamorous, I knew that adapting that idea was the way to approach bright colours! The key to colour blocking is letting this garment make the statement! In other words, work around that colour and plan an outfit where the bright garment will be the first thing people see! For example:

I went to a party the other day and I really wanted to wear my blue heels! So I done just that; I colour blocked! To do this, it's better to have an accessory which is the same colour as the garment. So as you can see, I brought a clutch bag (Newlook, £14) which is the same colour as my shoes. This breaks the colour and helps the outfit to blend in and not look as sharp!

Next, you have to think of a colour which goes with your accessories - the easiest is black. Black goes with everything, however you could face the problem of looking too dull. Anyway, with my shoes and bag I decided to wear black. I wore leggings and a black blouse with a lace panel at the top (Primark, £14). 

To top it off, I wore a magenta colour blazer (Newlook, £5 in sale) which was a risky decision as it might've looked a bit in-your-face, however in this case it made the outfit look complete! This blazer worked really well with the shoes - that was surprising!

Colour blocking is all about experimenting! I didn't think the blazer, the shoes and the clutch would've ever matched however given that the rest of the outfit was quite dull, it looked perfect.  Bright colours do go together, however it's SO important to make sure the outfit doesn't look OTT (over the top).

People loved my outfit so much that at the party, three people asked me how I came about with the colour combination! It really looks harder than it is.  You could also colour block with jeans - colourful jeans (red, burgundy, bright blue, green).
They have recently come into fashion so you have an easy opportunity to look fabulous and get out the clothes that sit in your cupboard and never get worn!

It's all about having a fashionable eye. If you're wearing bright yellow and bright pink I don't think that would go because they're TOTAL opposites however purple and blue aren't too far from eachother on a colour scale. Conquering the World!

Bit weird name for a fashion article? Have you ever heard of the saying "Give a girl the right shoes and she can conquer the world". That's my topic for today. What makes the right shoe? Does it have to be: comfortable, pretty, high, low, colourful or platform? I know I've spoken briefly about shoes before but today I want to get more into the shoes that I own, in particular high heels and trainers. I'm the sort of girl that obsesses over heels, but I also love wearing my Converses. 

 

The shoes people like can vary on their personality and interests. For example, if you're a sporty person trainers are clearly the ones for you. If you love heels and wear them all the time, you'd be quite an organised, have-to-look-amazing-all-the-time sort of girl.  I own many shoes but I often get stuck about what outfit goes with the shoes. Don't you? I mean you have the nicest pair of pink flats - but er, what goes with them - you can't wear black skinny jeans with everything, can you?  Hmmmmm .. I have selected the different types of shoes I own which you can see below:



These are the first pair of shoes that I own. They're light blue as you can see and they're from Shoe Dazzle. I got them for £12 in a sale. I love these shoes because they go really nicely with a LBD - it breaks the colour. Also it looks nice with a blue skirt that I have. These heels are definitely one of my favourites! I wore these shoes to a party I went to recently and it looked amazing - I wore a totally black outfit with these shoes and a clutch bag which is the same colour. Colour blocking is something I love to do (I'll write a seperate article on how to do this correctly). I think having a bright coloured pair of shoes is a must have in every wardrobe!

It's all about YOU!

Hey guys! It's been a long time since I've written a piece because of exams and stuff, but also I haven't found any inspiration? I don't know but is it just me or has the shops been a bit boring lately - and I NEVER get bored of shopping!

 

Anyways, I don't want to have a blog that doesn't appeal to my readers, so apart from the stuff that I will write anyway, I'm going to give you guys an opportunity to give me ideas that you would like to see me writing about. What sort of fashion advice do you need? A lot of people have told me that they've had difficulty following me and commenting on articles so I've made a special email address which is: fashionwriter@hotmail.co.uk ... Wishful Thinking

I know my blog is supposed to be about what I already have in my wardrobe, but I've decided to write about something different today. Let me let you into a little secret - if you haven't already noticed I have a bit of an obsession with handbags! Don't get me wrong, I love my heels but handbags - WOW. I literally daydream about walking into Selfridges with a wod of £50 notes, choosing myself the perfect handbag  - most likely to be Chanel or Gucci and voila - it's mine! But as usual, I get distracted and I'm back to reality. Anyways, my topic today is about what I want in my wardrobe.

 

Every week, I buy Vogue - I know it's a little expensive, but I save up my money and have to buy it. So recently, they had this fashion issue and it talked about the Fashion Night Out that was hosted - OMG how I wish I could of been there, but instead I'm doing exams - yay. Flicking through the adverts, they had the most beautifullest (I know this isn't a word) bag I'd ever seen - CHANEL! *Screaming* ... Here's a picture of it:

 

You must of seen this bag before, every celebrity has it! But wow, is this perfection or what?!  Could you imagine this bag with a nice pair of Christian Louboutins, black skinny jeans, a chiffon black top, with this on your shoulder?  I'm now dreaming because this outfit alone would be atleast £10,000 which is a bit ridiculous. Anyways, I love designer handbags, especially Chanel but I seriously don't get why people carry the bag just because it's designer. Everyone has their own taste, but even designers can go wrong at times (except Chanel - Karl Lagerfeld is perfect hehe). 

 

 

 

You may of heard of Juicy Couture - a company which sells majority velour tracksuits. I'm not a big velour person - it reminds me of my bath towel. Well anyway these bags retails for about £300, and I just don't get why anyone would carry any of these.  Juicy Couture actually have some really nice bags, but THESE?! Despite this, I have seen about 10 girls carry one of these bag - why!!!! I get that you're carrying an expensive handbag but it isn't always about the designer. What would you wear this with anyway?

 

Speaking of designer handbags, last weekend I went to outlet malls and brought myself a Ted Baker handbag. I know it's not exactly my dream bag but it's good enough for a 15year old. Here's a picture of it:

Yes it's baby pink, and I don't normally go for those sort of colours - but firstly, it's good to have a wide variety of colours, not always the same Black, Grey, etc. and secondly, I have a pair of shoes to match it which you can see in the body length picture. The bag was £85, which is actually a bargain for Ted Baker. I would wear this bag on a night out, with my stilletos, skinny jeans or leggings, black or pink top, pearls and a black cardigan if it's cold! One day, I'll wear this outfit and upload it! :)

  

Below you'll find my absolute favourite handbags and what I'd wear with them:

 

 

This bag is called the Gucci Sukey Medium Tote bag, and it retails for about £800. I really like this bag because it's so chic, the leather looks absolutely beautiful on this bag. The engravement shows that the bag is Gucci! You could wear this bag with absolutely anything, ensuring that the outfit isn't all black though. There are endless possibilities of shoes that this bag can go with; this definitely has to be my favourite Gucci bag!

Lastly, we come to Chanel! Other than the one from the top which is more of an everyday bag, I really really like this! It has the chain that can make it look like a normal bag but then it can also be used as a clutch bag. This would go amazing with a nice plain dress, and plain shoes so that this bag can make the statement for the outfit. This could go with either plan shoes, simple black ones or dressy shoes if the rest of the ouftit was simple.

Summer Lovin'

Hey guys! I know I haven't blogged in a while, been really busy with school and stuff - I'll promise to try and write more ... Anyways, over this Summer we've had some really nice weather, and it keeps going on - luckily.  Therefore majority of girls are wearing dresses; I look at some and just think "Why would you do that to yourself?" It's good to have guts and dress the way you want but come on - there are limits! So I feel that it's important to talk about Summer Dresses today. Yes it's true that if you look in a fashion magazine, you'll see everyone else writing about the same thing - I'm different because I don't choose £200 dresses. I live in reality just like ordinary people! 

The first thing I think a dress needs to have is a nice and elegant neckline, not one that shows a lot of clevage - it's tacky. A sophisticated round line neck is perfect - it suits all ages! It doesn't show too much flesh but it doesn't cover up a lot either so you won't boil. Also, it needs to be the right length. If it's a finger length above your knee then it's too short. I'm down for tanning but showing too much flesh can look vile.  It's all about the cut of the dress, and everyone has their own taste.

The right dress will have the right colours/pattern on it. For Summer I think that floral prints are beautiful - it's like a theme! Below you'll see a floral print dress that I have, which was £7 from Matalan. I don't normally shop there but I thought this dress was lush!  When the sun's out, it automatically puts me in the best mood ... I like to wear bright colour dresses - pinks, oranges, light blues, etc - hot colours. One exception would be wearing black, even though it absorbs heat and you may begin to feel hot, black matches anything and could easily be livened up with jewellery or shoes. I have worn black in the heat before, but it wasn't plain. It's a zebra print dress with a black chiffon skirt from New Look for £10. Animal prints? I'm not a huge fan of them, but this dress couldn't be worn with leggings or tights so Summer seemed to be the only acceptable time.

Material is another important factor. I've seen some girls who wear dresses made from wool. REALLY?! Cotton or chiffon are suitable materials that won't stick to your body. Instead it should flow down your body is a lady-like manner and show off your curves.  The last factor that completes the outfit is the shoes. Girls, don't wear dresses with trainers or boots - it doesn't match.  A pretty pair of sandles, plain or embroided would look elegant and would give that dress the finishing touch.
